Cameron's Letter Nov 28, 2011

Dear Family and Friends!!!

Crestview is great!! The first 3 days I was here we biked about 50ish miles!!! I wouldn't mind it as much, but we go up and down alot of hills and going up the hills uses up alot of my energy. I am working on getting better. Elder Kanis is a truck! He can go none stop!! It's hard for me to keep within 50 feet at times! Elder Kanis is from Kaysville, UT and he goes home Dec 19th (this is part of why I think I might be home for Christmas next year, his release date is in January but President Jensen is sending all the missionaries going home next transfer on the 19th, and since my release date is in January 2013 I might get to come home for Christmas. Not that is not for sure, I will probably find out within the next 4ish months because they need to have plenty of time to coordinate things), he has been in Crestview for the last year! Pretty much since I have been on my mission! My other companion is Elder Wintrode, he is from Napa, ID. He knows one of my previous companions (Elder Leyba, the one I trained) from high school. He has only been out 3 months. I am in the Crestview 2nd ward and they are AWESOME!!!!! They do great member missionary work!!! I'll explain why in a minute.
My Thanksgiving was great!!!! We started out the day playing football for about 3 hours!! We had a bunch of people from both the 1st and 2nd wards and some nonmembers! It was great to play football again!!! And it was pretty warm!! It started out in the 50's but about half way through it warmed up to the 60's so it was a great day for football!!! I sled in the mud after catching the ball on the sideline and losing my balance!! haha! It was pretty cool! After football we came home and showered and changed into shirt and tie and went to the Church for our 1st meal! It was great! There was a ton of food, the only thing I think could have been better were the mashed potatoes! They were either kinda runny or still chunks of potatoes not mashed! They should have mashed the potatoes more, but they were still good! After that we went out to a less active members mom's house for our 2nd meal! It was good I had turkey, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, and some rolls! Then we went to an investigators house for our 3rd and final meal! It was mexican style, I ate as much as I could but I still left alot on my plate. It was a great day!!
Being District Leader is going good so far, my first District meeting is tomorrow and I am a little nervous for it... the basics of what I do is teach the other missionaries, be an example, and make sure everyone else in the District are doing well.

Thank you so much for fixing my glasses! You can send them whenever, I'm not in any rush. To save on money you can just send them in the Christmas package.

Sounds like y'all had a pretty good Thanksgiving!! Did you have seasoned rolls???? You should have!!! Can't wait til we can celebrate it together again!!!!

This week has been pretty good! We have biked a TON (It's good for me)! And we have a good size pool of investiagtors! We have a woman who has a baptismal date for Dec 13th! So that is exciting!! And the ward are awesome member missionaries!!! This one family (the Toolan's) are pretty legit! They invited us over for lunch yesturday and Katie (their 17 year old daughter) invited 2 nonmember friends and after we ate we watched an EFY video on the Book of Mormon and then discussed it and answered some of their questions!! And the Toolan's talked alot!! They weren't silent like in other lessons I have had with investigators!! They were AMAZING!!! I was very impressed with them and also, I felt bad because I wasn't nearly as good a member missionary when I was back home!! I will step it up though when I come home!!! But yeah! That's pretty much it for this week!! I love y'all!!!

Cameron's Letter Nov 21, 2011

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Family and Friends!

I am leaving Alma and going to Crestview, FL!! AND I am going to be a DL.... that I didn't expect! Could you get a large journal please? I have no idea what I am doing for Thanksgiving! I probably won't find out until tomorrow! WHAT?!?!? Kiki is engaged!?! That's crazy!? Wooooooooooooooooow!!!!!! That's great for Sean!!! Best of luck there! Another thing I have thought of that you could get me for christmas is a hard drive. It doesn't have to be very big but the thumb drive I have is almost full! But if y'all could do that that would be great!

Sounds like y'all had a fun time with Grandma! And at Robbie's wedding!! And it sounds like the family dinner was great and the entertainment sounded great too!! I wish I could have been there! Y'all have to take pictures of bedrooms please! I wanna see what my room will look like when I get home!

That's awesome that BYU won!!!! Just like old times!! I bet it was a cold game!! BYU will beat Hawaii!!

That's great that y'all are having Thanksgiving with Scott and Joanna and Amber and Jason!! Tell them I said Howdy!! (And say it exactly like that!) Don't forget to have seasoned rolls in my honor!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe this year y'all could have alot of seasoned rolls left over!! Haha! It will be good!

Well I have known for almost a week that I will be going to Crestview, Wednesday evening Elder Horning called President Jensen to ask him a question about his bike and then at the end President told him that he was going to train and I asked Elder Horning to ask where I am going and President said Crestview. Wednesday evening we were invited to attend the Young Womens Night of Excellence and it was very good in my opinion! There are only 3-4 Young Women who come actively. And since Wednesday the work hadn't been that good unfortunately . Thursday we went to Douglas so all the trainers in the district (there are going to be 4 trainers in this zone, and there were about 4 last transfer in this zone too) and we also got interviewed by President! Oh something I forgot to mention I am going to be in a 3 some for about 3 weeks because one of my companions will be going home about a week before Christmas (just to let y'all know, that might happen to me next year!), but then I will go back to just me and the other missionary. Friday we had a Fall Festival at the Church! It was alot of fun but the Church building wasn't quite big enough for everyone who came! When supper was ready it was crowded! Elder Horning and I were incharge of some stations (I was at Dino Dig, and Elder Horning did Apple Bobbing) it was great! Saturday we went to Sister White's Fathers funeral. That was very interesting.... as we were walking in I could feel myself getting weaker and weaker, and there was an eriee feeling walking in! It wasn't really a funeral! They talked about the deceased for about 10 minutes in the 2 hours that it went for! It was more like a concert! When the music was playing, it was loud and eventually many many people got up and were dancing and raising there hands in the air! And another fun thing, there were about 70+ people there and there were 7 white people (us and a couple others from the branch. We came to support Sister White.) and the rest were black! I felt soooo outta place! And at the end the preacher preached and he said amen after almost EVERY sentence!!! And people were saying amen, praise the lord, hallelujah, and a couple other things! It wasn't like I thought it was going to be.... Then yesturday I went around and said goodbye to members and other people I wanted to say goodbye to and I got pictures with lots of them! Our only investigator was gone so I wasn't able to say goodbye, but maybe I will see him tonight!
But that's it for this email! I love everyone!!! Have a great Thanksgiving!!!!

Love,
Elder Cameron Williams

Cameron's Letter Nov 14, 2011

Dear Everyone who will be readint this,

Working with members is good, but it will take a bit for it to really get up to speed!
Let me know how Emily's games go!! As long as she is having fun she will do great!! Is she the tallest in the league? It wouldn't surprise me if she is!! Haha!!

Y'all sound like a fun week! Dad stop getting sick!!! (Speaking of sick, I woke up early Sunday morning with a parched mouth and I went and got a drink of water. When I got back into bed my stomach started hurting and it felt like I had to throw up! So I went back into the bathroom and grabbed the bucket in there just in case, and I threw up. It wasn't alot but afterwards I felt alot better!! I think it might have been some food that wasn't completely cooked! But I prayed and went back to sleep and woke up feeling better! And I am doing great right now!) Laura is in Tech?!? Since when?!? How come I didn't know about that?!? That's cool though!! I have had some friends who were in Tech and they really liked it!! Awwww!!! Laura went on a date!!! How cute!!! Hope she had fun! Laura you should go to Prom!! It's your last chance to!!! Talk about it around the guy you want to ask you!!! See if that will work!!! I know it's not til at least March, but still!! Think about it!!
I'm glad that you are buying these DVDs because I'm gonna watch them when I come home in 14ish months!! The last email I got from Laura was Sept 19th, so unless she has sent some since then then I haven't gotten them. Sorry.
Yeah we heard about the missionaries killed in Texas! We got a text from President Jensen on Wednesday morning with an urgent request that we all be extra cautious on our bikes! I didn't know that one had finished his mission!?! But that's rough! I hope that their families will be blessed too!
Well this week I went to Douglas for a tradeoff Tuesday and Wednesday Morning. I was with Elder Randall and it was kinda slow, we couldn't get in with anyone until about 7:30 that night. In the morning (Wednesday) we went to see a former investigator, but they didn't answer so we knocked on some doors around it and we talked with an old lady, she said that she doesn't want to listen unless she can teach us stuff about her church. She told us that we need to read the word of God and pray to find the truth. That's when we both bore testimony of the Book of Mormon being the word of God along with the Bible! Unforotunately I think she chose to ignore it because she repeated it a couple more times before we left. She told us that it is false doctrine that we can become like God (I later remembered a scripture that Elder Adam loved to use and I can't believe that I had forgotten it! It was Romans 8:16-17! I wish I would have remembered that!) She also said that the Bible says that you aren't supposed to add to or take away from the Bible, and we told her that we aren't adding to the Bible, but she didn't believe us. She was shocked when Elder Randall said that through reading the Book of Mormon he hasn't found anything that contradicts the Bible, but unfortunately she didn't listen. I was sad that she wasn't willing to listen. Then on Thursday we were able to go and talk with George again! He LOVES to talk! We need to take over and control the conversation because we aren't always talking about the basics. He keeps trying to go for deep doctrine! He asked us to get him copies of the "Teachings of the Presidents" manuels! We are slowly working on it. On Saturday we went over to Sister White's again and did service. I built a fire! It took a bit but I got it working! And we started chopping down a tree and when it was almost ready to come down I took over and chopped it down! The only bad part was that I broke the ax... the head came completely off of the ax!! So I bought a new ax handle for Sister White. But that's about it for this week!
I love y'all and take care of yourselves please!

Love,
Elder Cameron Williams

Cameron's Letter Nov 7, 2011

Guten Tag mine Familia und Fruends!! ( I don't know if I spelt those right, and I know there is at least 2 different languages in there!)

The cake was very good!! Oh I don't really care what others thing anymore, they can say I'm spoiled and I will say "Yep!!" I liked the things in my package!! I wasn't quite expecting so much candy, but it's ok! It will last me for a while!! Some of the Pringles were broken up and a few oreos were missing an edge or so but they were still edible! The Star Wars suckers are good!! (You know me mum!! ) I have put stickers on alot of things! And I gave half of the panda stickers to Elder Chapman because he LOVES pandas! I was also a little confused as to why you sent a stuffed panda, but I have renamed him and I like him alot! His name is Yao "King of the Desk"! We did use the Subway card for dinner, thank you very much!! Other franchises are Mac Donalds, Dairy Queen, and Carl's Jr (although down here it is called Hardee's), but those are just here in Alma. There are alot more in Douglas! I got the Mac and Cheese! Thank you!! I can't wait to have some! We have some leftovers that we need to finish off first and then I will make some!! No thank you, I got a copy of the Ensign from the mission. Every Ensign will go to each companionship and the conference Ensign will be given to each missionary so we can have our copy! It's great!! Though it's not quite the same as listening because there are somethings that are said that aren't put in the Ensign! We did not get any trick or treaters unfortunately :(
.... We aren't teaching Monique anymore... We went by on Tuesday to see how she was doing and when she opened the door and saw us she said,"Oh, no!" and walked down the hallway and grabbed the copy of the Book of Mormon and the Restoration pamphlet and gave them back to us saying that she isn't interested. We asked her what happened and she said she just wasn't interested anymore. We suspect she got antied because nobody would react like that when seeing us or acting like the Book of Mormon was poisonous unless they got antied. We told her she might get antied and asked if she would let us explain ourselves before closing the door on learning more, and she said she would, but she didn't. Now that is just what we got from it. We don't know exactly why.

That's sounds like an unusual Halloween!?! It was warm?!? Usually it is cool or snowing! But I can't wait to be back at home for Halloween! Did you get any pictures of Laura and Emily in their costumes and of the pumpkins y'all carved? If you did would you kindly send some in the next email or you can mail them. (Either way) OH!!!! Just thought I'd let you know, I made Chili for supper!! I kept up with tradition!!! But I didn't have corn beard either, mostly because I don't know how to make it!

That's good that Emily likes her room! Send pictures when you can!!!

Yes I did get the wedding announcement of Robbie and Cammie! It was great! It's also weird to think that I am growing up too!! That's great that Sean is engaged!!! Yay!!!

That stinks that Sister Thompson is in the hospital!! That's no fun at all! I hope she gets better soon!!!

That's cool that they have a Charlie Brown band!?! And another snowman for the snowman band!!! I can't wait to hear them!!! Don't over play them to make them not work please!!!

You know that's pretty funny! I was actually thinking about that a couple days ago, "I wonder if there have been any changes in ward or Young Men's" But that's cool that there has been a change!

I got a NEW sister?!?!? What is Emilou like?!? Can she fit in a Tigger costume?!? I take it she can't unless there is one big enough for a girl in Middle school (which there could be!)! Why didn't you tell me y'all were adopting?!? And she is stealing all of Emily's friends!! You have to send a picture of Emilou!!!

Well this week we had Zone Conference on Wednesday so that took up most of our day! But it was great! We discussed the Importance of Members in missionary work! And we decided we are going to start working more with members, because as missionaries we are supposed to build up the branches or wards we are serving in and of course baptisms are apart of that but since we are struggling with getting investigators we are going to make sure every house hold in the Branch has a copy of Preach My Gospel and actively studies out of it. It will help members with missionary work and get them excited to do so! Because getting referrals (friends of members) from members then their friends will be more likely to stay in the Church because they already know someone in the Church! That is the way we are starting to go. President Jensen told a story about a mission in Africa. The Chruch wasn't very well established there and with approval from the area seventy's presidency, for 120 days the missionaries are going to stop finding on their own (no tracting) and work on building up the branches they are serving. And the cool part is that their work doubled from doing that! So that is what we are trying to do right now, but we still will be doing some things on our own. And so far we have had great support from the members here and we are going to keep going!
On Friday we were going through the former investigators in the Area Book and decided we were going to try and contact all the "formers." And we ended up at a lady named Trina. She talked with us for a few minutes and she said we could come back Sunday, and then her husband (Donnie, I think that's how it's spelt) came to the door and talked with us for a little bit. Then he asked if we wanted something to drink and we said "sure, if you are willing" and they invited us in! Then we talked about alot of things: things we as missionaries and members are advised not to do, hunting, wild dogs (that live behind their house and coyotes and red wolfs, and that it isn't a good idea to ride our bikes done there after dark! It's a good thing we had our car!), their humanitarian efforts, and what we do as missionaries! It was great! Then they gave us some toilet-trees, gillette razors, an electric toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and deodorant! It was great! They had a TON because Trina does couponing! And they help out a local battered womens place, and we thought that that was pretty cool! But when we came back on Sunday, they forgot about the time change otherwise they would have had us come sooner because since it was getting dark sooner and Donnie had stuff he needed to do, so we talked with them for a little bit. But that is my week!

I love y'all very much! Don't die!!!

Love,
Elder Cameron Williams
